VICTORIA -- Police in Saanich, B.C., had no trouble making a collar after an anxious Victoria-area couple sniffed out two suspects they believed were trying to sell their dog.

The incident began when Bieber, a blue-nosed pit bull, got away from its owners in the area east of Elk Lake, in suburban Victoria, on Saturday.

The worried couple checked the pound and SPCA before scouring local Internet sites, where they quickly found an ad for a 15-month old pup that sounded suspiciously like Bieber.

The man and woman who posted the ad were asking $800 for the pooch, and agreed to meet the couple, who then contacted police.

A 32-year-old woman and 35-year-old man were arrested as they tried to sell Bieber back to the dog's original owners, and the suspects have been ordered to appear in court next month on theft charges.

Bieber is in good health, despite the ordeal, and is now reunited with his family.

Two people are facing theft charges after allegedly trying to sell this lost dog, Bieber the pit bull.
